AMION advised Liverpool Cathedral in securing ERDF support towards the construction of a new integrated Visitor Centre and associated visitor facilities, comprising a ‘Cathedral Experience’ tour and exhibition, the Experience Film Theatre, sound and lighting infrastructure, a new Welcome area, incorporating the Cathedral shop and a mezzanine café and meeting area, new internal and external access and toilet facilities, and marketing support.

We prepared a Business Plan, together with a Marketing Plan, to support the application, as well as support to the preparation of financial projections to underpin the new investment and identification of economic impact. In assisting the Cathedral in developing the proposals, we worked closely with heritage interests, including the Cathedral Architect and English Heritage, and advised on various aspects of the supporting case including procurement of the client team, visitor surveys and monitoring requirements.

In addition, we subsequently supported the Cathedral in seeking a revised offer letter, and in preparation of monitoring reports and claims during the course of construction of the new facilities. Thereafter, we also supported the Cathedral in an ‘Article 4’ Monitoring Visit and an ‘Article 10’ Progress and Audit Visit to which the project was subject. We were particularly able to advise in relation to the verification of outputs, outcomes and impacts of the project as well as the overall context.
AMION was commended for the ‘satisfaction and gratitude in the work you are doing’ by Andy Chittenden (Corporate Administrator & Director) and Christopher Gibaud (Director of Development).

Update:
The project was successful in winning an award in the 2012 Mersey Partnership Annual Tourism Awards, in recognition of the importance of the facility within the Merseyside visitor economy.
